Truck's brake failure leads to seven-vehicle smash on South Eastern Freeway

A truck has hit six vehicles, including a minibus, when its brakes failed near the base of Adelaide’s notorious South Eastern Freeway. Police say it is “miraculous” no-one was seriously injured. Emergency services were called to Glen Osmond Road at the exit of the freeway about 6.30pm on Wednesday. It is believed the semi-trailer lost its brakes. Several people were treated at the scene by paramedics, with one man taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Terrifying moment truck loses control on busy Adelaide freeway caught on camera

A motorist has recorded the terrifying moment a semi-trailer hurtled down a busy freeway with the driver losing control as the truck’s brakes failed. The footage, obtained exclusively by 9News, shows the B-Double speeding down the South Eastern Freeway at Leawood, Adelaide around 8.30 this morning. As the driver lost control, he was able to avoid other vehicles on the Freeway and managed to steer the B-Double into a gravel arrester bed to bring it to a halt.

Truck driver fined after close call on South-Eastern Freeway

A TRUCK driver has been fined for breaking driving laws after disaster was narrowly averted on the South-Eastern Freeway through the Adelaide Hills. Traffic police spotted the B-double truck travelling down the freeway at the tollgate with smoky brakes just before 7pm on Saturday. The truck was stopped at the Portrush Rd intersection, where police discovered the brake temperatures were between 210C to 270C. The truck, and both trailers, were defected and the trucking company is now under investigation “regarding the maintenance of the vehicle”.

Coroner recommends national training for truck drivers on the South Eastern Freeway into Adelaide

Truck drivers from across Australia may soon have to prove they are capable of using the South Eastern Freeway into Adelaide under recommendations proposed by the coroner. An inquest in the coroner’s court has delivered its findings into two fatal accidents at the bottom of the freeway in 2010 and 2014. They included the death of 41-year-old truck driver James Venning, who died when he slammed into a wall at the intersection of Cross Road and Glen Osmond Road at the beginning of the freeway in January 2014.

Fatal truck crash inquest: Police say brakes were overheated, ineffective

Police investigating a fatal crash involving a truck at the bottom of the South Eastern Freeway in Adelaide earlier this year have told an inquest that the truck’s brakes were overheated and ineffective. Senior Vehicle Examiner Eliot McDonald was giving evidence into the death of 41-year-old truck driver James Venning, who crashed into a wall on the northern side of Cross Road in January. Vision showed the driver braking heavily during his 10-kilometre descent from the Adelaide Hills to the Glen Osmond Road and Cross Road intersection.

One person killed and three people injured after a truck rolls over at the start of South Eastern Freeway in Adelaide

A 56-year-old man from Hallett Cove has died after a truck crash at the start of the South Eastern Freeway in Adelaide, which trapped people in their vehicles and left three people injured. The man was one of several drivers waiting at the intersection of Glen Osmond Road and Cross Road when a truck driver attempted to turn left off the freeway and instead veered across the road, crashing into the cars.

Freeway Crash Kills Man at Bus Stop

A man at a bus stop was killed when he was hit by a semi-trailer careering out of control in peak hour on an Adelaide freeway this morning. Witnesses described the smell of hot brakes as the runaway semi hurtled down the main freeway at Glen Osmond in the Adelaide Hills. The truck swerved, clipping cars and hitting a man changing a tyre by the roadside, before it hit the bus stop.
